Need

Utilization and Correlation of the Kunak AIR Pro for air pollution monitoring in Scientific Research and Operational Assessments at the University of Cyprus’ AURA Monitoring Station.

Laboratory – Isle of Excellence of Environmental Fluid Mechanics (EFM) of the University of Cyprus, has significantly enhanced its atmospheric monitoring capacity by integrating the Kunak AIR Pro at AURA’s Monitoring Station. With this innovative equipment, detailed atmospheric measurements can be taken in remote and burdened environments.

It currently records concentrations of suspended particulate matter ranging from PM1 to PM10 and is expected to be upgraded with additional gaseous pollutants sensors soon. A central feature of its development is its rigorous calibration and performance evaluation in real conditions before it is used in demanding environments. Its mobility and ease of deployment enable on-site monitoring in industrial zones and polluted areas across Cyprus. As the EFM laboratory extends its research and consultancy activities, the measurement synergy between the transportable Kunak AIR Pro and the AURA Station will greatly benefit scientific atmospheric research in the region.

Solution

The objective is to successfully deploy the Kunak AIR Pro station in different environments while maintaining complete autonomy.

This station will be able to monitor real-time atmospheric conditions in specified areas in Cyprus, serving scientific research studies and providing consulting services to public and private bodies.

Results

Deployment of a mobile monitoring station that allows local sampling and thus complements official station networks that have limited spatial monitoring resolution.

The sensors are systematically calibrated using referenced methods prior to use.
