Questions & Answers
What uncertainty do you have in your instruments given that they are near reference data quality?
Our data complies with the uncertainty determined by the data quality objective for indicative measurements of the European Air Quality Directive. In addition, for the particles, we have field tests as evidence of the proven comparable performance to equivalent instruments for the PM sensor.
For further info, please contact us.
For the leak detection graph, what measurement density do you need to be able to do such a type of graph?
The Kunak AIR Cloud using the OpenAir suite combines wind speed and direction with concentration data to make the customers available different tools for the identification of emission sources.

With what concentrations present in the standard mixture do you calibrate with the Gashood?
The concentrations used to calibrate the cartridges with the gashood should be in the range of the cartridge, for instance, for NO2, the concentration range of 5 ppm, so it is recommended to calibrate the sensitivity with a 1 ppm of NO2… but this depends on the gas cylinder.

Question re. gashood and applying test gas when outdoors: let’s say that the outdoor conditions are 5 deg C and 90 % humidity which is not the condition in the reference gas bottle, how do the sensors react on and handle the total rapid change in temp and humidity when applying a test gas under these conditions?
Kunak characterized the temperature and humidity dependence of each cartridge individually, so when the calibration is carried out in other conditions than the cartridge would be, the Kunak algorithm transfers this calibration to the current environmental conditions. Besides, Kunak corrected the humidity transients’ effect in the sensor to mitigate the rapid change in humidity on the cartridges.
Can we have the slides or the registration of the webinar?
Sure, we’ll be sharing the presentation with all the attendees. For further info, please contact us.
Did you deploy hybrid measuring stations and have you some references?
Yes, we did. You can find some of them on the website:
- Regulatory institution: https://kunakair.com/case-studies/hybrid-air-quality-network-atmo-france/
- Mining site: https://kunakair.com/case-studies/mining-air-pollution-monitoring-network-at-coal-mine/
Do you have any references for Universities, Farms & Refineries?
Yes, we do. We have worked with different universities such is the case of the University of Milan, the University of Montenegro, Aristotle University, the University of Stuttgart, etc. We have deployed devices in different farms (pig, cattle…) and some refineries in Greece, Brazil, KSA, Norway and Chile.
You can find some use cases on the website:
- University of Cyprus: https://kunakair.com/case-studies/air-pollution-monitoring-university-cyprus/
- University of Costa Rica: https://kunakair.com/case-studies/air-quality-monitoring-at-the-turrialba-volcano/

Do you think you could add the certification to the spec sheet?
Actually, we have a new brochure including evaluations and certification details. You can get it at the following link: https://kunakair.com/catalogue-download/
Can you explain the gas hood calibration? How does the customer do that?
This information is explained in our new brochure from pages 26-28. You can get it at the following link: https://kunakair.com/catalogue-download/
Can you tell us something about the results in Paris? Do they compare well with the reference instrument?
The map of Paris shown during the webinar was a graphical representation of a hybrid network model, not a real case. However, for checking real data compared to reference stations, you can check the results of the micro-sensors evaluation carried out in the 2023 AIRLAB challenge organized by Airparif at the following link: https://airparif.shinyapps.io/2023ChallengeResultsEN/

Is there currently a more affordable solution that would fit in smaller projects with a tighter budget maintaining the quality of Kunak standards?
Yes, there is. Kunak AIR Lite is our most compact solution for smaller projects, targeting 2 gases + particulate matter at a lower price and sharing the same principles of Kunak AIR Pro.
Are there any plans for new devices or a new version of air quality monitoringControlling air quality is an essential task in order to enjoy optimal environmental conditions for healthy human development and to keep the environment i...
Read more following 2024?
Our roadmap indeed contemplates different improvements all along this year, but they are more focused on new gas cartridges for the industry and additional features for the Kunak AIR Cloud only.
For further info, please contact us.
How does Kunak work stability in extreme temperature ranges from -25 to +35C?
The gas cartridges are characterized in a wide range of temperatures that is specified in the datasheet.
What is your recommendation when it comes to regular checks and evaluations of particulate sensor?
The PM sensor comes with the factory calibration factor from MCERTS certification. However, in case there is reference data available in the deployment site, it is possible to calculate a specific calibration factor in the final site in which the PM sensor is deployed.
Nevertheless, there is not always the possibility to compare against reference data, so Kunak went through the indicative measurement certification of MCERTS. To ensure the data quality of the PM sensor. Besides, is recommended to check and clean the PM sensor every 12 months.
For further info, please contact us.
I saw the calibration of gas sensors can be calibrated remotely, is there any ability to calibrate the PM sensor on-site?
To calibrate the PM sensor at the site where it is deployed, this can be done against gravimetric (reference) or equivalence data (a Palas Fidas, a Grimm, TEOM, etc.). This calibration can be done remotely by calculating the calibration factor in the Kunak AIR Cloud platform.
You talk about ongoing certifications, like reference stations. Are you expecting soon some of them? And if yes, in which countries?
We are waiting for the validation of the European Technical Specification CEN 17660 and the EPA protocols, as possible indicative measurement-type approvals for this type of technology.
Can these sensor systems be used for regulatory purposes?
No, they cannot be used for regulatory purposes. However, once the European Technical Specification 17660 is validated by the CEN, then our devices could be used as indicative measurements to complement the official regulatory stations.

Who are the major competitors of Kunak Air? Can you describe it?
Thank you for your interest, we can have a formal meeting to share ideas. Please contact us and we will be happy to arrange a meeting.
Are you already present in Southeast Asia?
Yes, we are. We are present through our distributors in the Philippines, Singapore, Korea, etc.

Do you work with NGOs, to install air monitors in third-world countries?
We have worked with different NGOs for third-world countries, such as the case of the United Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization. Take a look at the following use case: https://kunakair.com/case-studies/digital-transformation-and-a-cleaner-air-in-ethiopia-2/.
For further info, please contact us.
Also, let me know the life of different cartridges.
As specified in the datasheet, the lifespan is 2 years for most of the cartridges.
For further info, please contact us.
Is any of your equipment supplied by Kunak always inter-compared with reference methods?
We continuously conduct inter-comparative studies with reference stations in different locations and laboratories to guarantee the highest quality results.
