Need
Located in the Lachlan Fold Belt, one of Australia’s most promising copper regions, Northparkes Mine has been operating since 1994.
Since 2019, the company has relied on Acoem for environmental compliance through three BAM 1020 reference stations and a network of Acoem Cube acoustic units for noise monitoring.
As part of its sustainability and community engagement strategy, Northparkes sought to strengthen transparency with the local Wiradjuri community and ensure environmental performance aligned with growing regulatory and social expectations.
The mine needed a way to expand its dust monitoring network, correlate reference data with real-time measurements, and distinguish on-site dust events from those originating from external agricultural activities.
Northparkes aimed to expand its particle monitoring network to obtain additional data that would complement and validate the readings from its BAM 1020 stations.
The environmental team needed to accurately confirm whether elevated dust levels detected in the area originated from the mining site itself or from external sources such as nearby agricultural activities.
Having more hyperlocal and continuous measurements around the site boundaries would improve compliance, enhance anomaly detection, and enable faster, data-driven dust control strategies, ultimately minimizing impacts on the surrounding community.
